Competition Entry: Moments that Mattered in 2013

Mummy’s little monkey have a fabulous competition sponsored by Lloyds Bank to win an iPad mini.  Its all about taking a moment to stop and think every now and again, what are the moments that mattered?

When I discovered this competition the first thing I did was to look back on the photos on my phone, even that just made me smile!  What a fabulous year I had fulled with fun, here are some of my highlights:

2013 started off a little badly for me.  But as usual I picked myself up, dusted myself off, and started again.  It was really nice when William arrived though, my rescue dog who travelled all the way from Greece just to give me a cuddle!

I love to travel and was keen to visit a new destination this year to explore a different culture.  I was lucky to participate in a Grundvtig photography workshop in Romania.  Fabulous people and delicious food!

As always this year I was reminded what fabulous friends I have.  We hired a cottage and had a ‘Halloween’ themed weekend away, complete with pumpkin carving competition.  Although we got lots of strange looks in the local pub when we rocked up in our fancy dress!

My best friend is my rock year after year, and we have so many ‘moments’ I feel priviledged.  A highlight of last year was a cookery weekend we attended in the beautiful Cotswolds, look at the concentration……  this was probably as we’d had a few glasses of wine at lunch!

Christmas is always a special time of year, and it was great fun spoiling William with his first Christmas dinner, I hope we will enjoy many more together in the years to come.  (Note: He ate everything except the sprouts, then snored loudly on the settee afterwards. It seems dogs are like their owners)!

You need a blog to be able to enter this competition.  But I have to say this was a very enjoyable task!  Its worthwhile to stop for a moment and reflect on the good times, as we so often focus on the bad.  If you do enter this competition please let me know in the comments below.  I’d love to see your moments from last year, and here’s to lots of magical ones in 2014 for us all.  Be lucky!

Feeling Lucky, Feeling Positive? Can you be happy for 100 days in a row?

As you’ll remember from my New Year’s resolutions post, this year I resolve to be happy and lucky!  I’m enjoying being positive and I’ve really enjoyed reading your inspiring comments on the blog.

Flying around on social media at the moment you might see the hashtag; #100happydays

I love social media and how it can connect and reach people so very quickly, so I thought I’d check out what all this was about.  Well its about being happy!  The challenge is to post a photo of something that made you happy on each day, everyday for 100 days.  We live in a fast paced busy world.  This project is about taking just a moment of time to sit back and reflect what makes us smile, to recognise and appreciate how lucky we really are.

You can find more information and sign up here:  http://100happydays.com/

Needing more practice on instagram I decided to share my happiness there, I’m on day 12 and its already very interesting to look back and see what made me smile;  http://instagram.com/mesueyouwho

I hope you will join me in this inspiring challenge.  If you do please let me know in the comments section below, lets be happy & lucky together in 2014!

Feeling Positive for the year ahead…….

Having been reading over your comments on my 2013 wins post I am feeling in a positive mood.  Its been great to read about all your comping successes, it’s really inspiring.  Thank you so much for your comments, please do keep in touch on facebook and twitter and let me know about your wins in the future.  I’ll share them and we can inspire each other!

I think to be a successful comper you need to have a positive outlook in life and believe you can win, (alongside some serious dedication)!  Thats why I’m also going to be sharing some positive thoughts and images.  This is a very poignant statement for me this year.

New Years Resolutions 2014 & Wins from 2013

My New Years Resolutions are very simple this year:

1.  To get this blog up and running properly, (after 2 years in the thought process)!

2.  To dedicate more time to comping & enter more creative competitions.

3.  To keep a spreadsheet of all my wins.

4.  To be happy & lucky.

To achieve all of these things I am going to need to focus and it starts now……..

focus

When I started the blog last year I asked you, in this post:

https://how2bbornlucky.com/2013/05/23/210513-210514-prize-log-entry-1/

To guess how many prizes I would win in a year.  I had estimates ranging from 18 to 365, but in general most people felt I would win 52 times – or once per week.  I was very bad and didn’t keep up the log, (or blog), as promised, (hence New Years Resolutions)!  So yesterday I went through old emails, facebook messages and twitter mentions.

I found I had won 28 prizes totally a value of £3180.

This isn’t a great amount compared to some of my previous years but I am pleasantly surprised.  Remembering I only started the blog in May and had comped very little in the early part of the year, I also spent 2 months overseas during this time, so 28 wins is really for 6 months moderate comping.  I’m very happy, (but will still seek to improve this year)!  It also shows my readers have great guess work as around 52 wins for the year would have probably been right.

As I mentioned in my original post I don’t enter anything and everything.  I do go for the prizes I want.  Often I go in for easy to enter competitions on facebook and twitter but I will look for ones with very low entries.  Infact 2 of the facebook competitions I won this year I knew I was going to win……. as I was the only entrant!  But definately this year I would like to focus more on creative comping, again looking for those low entry competitions thereby increasing your chances to win.

My two biggest wins last year were the trip to London with £500 spending money from Nestle Bueno, and a Caldesi cookery weekend in the Cotswolds worth £1000.  I found I was busy coming up to Christmas so didn’t do much except twitter competitions but had a great run winning Ringside seats at a Boxing Match, Lunch & a Falconry experience, £40 Wagamama Vouchers, £50 GBK Vouchers, a Topshop Personal Shopping Experience and much more!

I have yet to have my first win of the year but I do have my spreadsheet all ready to record it when it does happen and of course I shall be sharing my wins.  It is really great to keep a record of your wins so you can look back and cheer yourself up in those lean times.  Wishing you all a very happy and lucky 2014.

I’d love to hear how many wins you had in 2013?

Blogging Crazy

I couldn’t sleep last night, I think I am going blogging crazy!  I haven’t even got the pages in the right order and I am in blog overload.  I have looked at so many amazing blogs out there, I already have an inferiority complex.  Will mine shape up, should I be more niche, what sort of blogger am I or aiming to be?!?  I just want to share some ‘lucky’ hints and tips but will anyone want to hear them?  Its all a whirling and blurring in my mind.  So I resolve at this early stage the blog is for me, I will write about what I want to write about.  And well find and dandy if someone likes it then Yeah, Woop Woop, parTEE time!  But if they don’t then oh well, I don’t mind.

How2bBornLucky.com is me, Sue Mellor.  Its my lifestyle and I’m happy living it, and writing it.  If you don’t like reading it hop over to one of the other 200 million blogs out there, (as at April 2013).  It seems it’s not just me then, the world is Blogging Crazy!

Virgin Territory

So I’m entering a new strange place……. I am told it is called the Blogosphere.  I feel excited yet apprehensive, uncertain of what lies ahead.  Will people like my writing, will I think of things to blog about, will I be a success and invited to lots of parties, will I figure out how to link my Facebook account so all you lovely readers can ‘like’ my page?!?

Only time will reveal the answers to these questions.  But for now I will pour some more wine, and search on google for the answer to the latter.
